Muvo one year later

July 2013

In July 2012 the Muvo Card system officially launched at City Hall in Durban. The cashless travel system is a progressive step for Durban that will uplift and continue to develop eThekwini’s transit infrastructure. By August last year the Muvo Cards had been fully integrated into the major bus lines and the public’s response was remarkable. The anticipation of a cashless system and convenient smartcard kept the support from the public alive. The launch was led by Mayor James Nxumalo and the head of ETA, Thami Manyathi, who addressed the public with high hopes for the future of Durban.

Since the launch, the Muvo Card system has received phenomenal support from the public and continues to grow. Approximately 5000 transactions from 7 400 Muvo Cards occur every day. Overall, over 18 000 Muvo Cards have been sold. This is an incredible uptake considering the short period of time the cards have been operational.

Through continual development and assessment Muvo is able to further address the needs of the passengers. Since last year, a free of charge SMS line has been implemented which gives passengers an easy, cheap and direct line to the Muvo staff. By SMSing their name and a short description of their query to 44524 passengers will receive a call within the following 24 hours from a Muvo brand ambassador who will accurately answer any queries. With the continued support and development of the Muvo Card, Durban’s transit systems will continue to progress into a leading infrastructure.
