The research behind Muvo

As news of Durban’s new public transport system breaks, so it becomes more apparent that systems have already been put in place to manage and maintain the process. The National Department of Transport’s development of an Integrated Rapid Transport Network originated from their desire to provide good quality public transport that meets customer needs.

A key element of public transport is an easy and maintainable fare system. Muvo Cards are the eThekwini Transport Authority’s electronic fare management system.  These cards are the first EMV-certified (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) and NDoT-certified (National Department of Transport) smartcard and have already been implemented and adopted by many daily commuters in the city of Durban.
